Federation Names New CEO

The Board of Trustees of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston is pleased to announce that it has unanimously selected Renee Wizig-Barrios as the Federation’s next President & Chief Executive Officer. A native Houstonian, Wizig-Barrios comes to the Federation after more than two and a half decades rising through leadership positions in Texas nonprofits. For the past 11 years, she has served as the Senior Vice President & Chief Philanthropy Officer for the Greater Houston Community Foundation (GHCF). There, she led a fundamental shift in the organization’s approach to its work and focused on moving from being an effective transactional platform for Donor Advised Funds to becoming a true hub for philanthropy that benefits both to donors and the Greater Houston community.

Kehillah High in Israel

This week, Houston teens who traveled to Israel on Kehillah High’s inaugural summer trip had the opportunity to connect with Israeli students from the Leo Baeck Haifa High School. Both programs are supported by the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston to grow the Jewish identity of the next generation.

JFNA: We Were Built for Times Like This

Still reeling from the impact of a global health pandemic, Texas was dealt a terrible blow with this week’s winter storm. Press reports confirm that freezing temperatures and a lack of power have wreaked havoc across the state. Our Federations have responded with swift action.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston is now accepting applications on a rolling basis for need-based scholarships for Jewish overnight summer camp and Israel travel, including gap-year programs, which enable children and teens to participate in these transformative Jewish educational experiences.
