Public Affairs

The Federation’s Director of Government Affairs keeps abreast and researches issues of importance to Jewish community on local, state, and national levels. This work includes working to convene Jewish communal institutions on these issues and engage politicians and stakeholders in our collective response. By serving as a central advocate on behalf of the community, we make our voice heard on issues including flooding, community resiliency, security, and community health.

Jewish Response and Action Network (JRAN)

The JRAN serves as a communications network by which each of our community’s institutions can interface with the Federation and each other on issues of heightened community need or those requiring short-term responses.

Initially, JRAN was constituted to create a network ready to respond to future man-made or natural disasters. Fortunately, we’ve recently been able to utilize this network as a source of information and guidance for its members as the Coronavirus situation has ramped up locally.  To the benefit of the JRAN network (which now has representation of more than 50+ people from our schools, synagogues, agencies and institutions), the Federation has brought critical, credible and up-to-date medical, public health, and other information to the JRAN network along with a proposed tiered Coronavirus action plan which provides general guidelines for each institution to use and adapt in best addressing their own specific constituencies.
