Professionally, Luis F. Gomar is a partner in Baker McKenzie’s North America Energy Transactions Group, with 15 years of experience advising on cross-border transactions in the energy and finance sectors. Fluent in English and Spanish, he regularly assists with project development, financing and acquisition or divestitures of energy assets in Latin America and is a frequent speaker or commentator on energy topics in the region.
Luis is a recognized attorney having received notable awards, including the following: Recommended Attorney, The Legal 500 US by Legalese (Industry Focus: Energy: Transactions: Oil and Gas), Texas Rising Stars (Mergers & Acquisitions); Who’s Who Legal: Mexico (Energy); Latin America’s Rising Legal Stars: Partners to Watch, Latinvex and Outstanding Lawyer Under 40 by The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas Cardozo Society.
Luis is admitted to practice law in Texas, New York, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. He is currently a member of the State Bar of Texas, an active member the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, the Energy Council Forum and other professional associations.
In addition to his professional accomplishments and involvement, Luis is passionately dedicated to serving the communities in which he has lived. Most recently, he is the acting Secretary and Treasurer of The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and a member of the Board of Advisors of the Holocaust Museum Houston since 2018. Nationally, Luis has served on the Emergency Committee for the Jewish Federations of North America since 2016, and served on the Houston Jewish Federation Flood Committee in the aftermath of Harvey. He is a member of JFNA’s National Young Leadership Cabinet, proudly representing Houston.
When not working or involved in community activities, Luis spends time chasing Bruno (1 year old), embarrassing Isabel (12) and Nico (9), begging Rambo (family puppy) for attention and attending any and all functions Stacy “suggests.”
