This past year has taught us a lot about our Houston Jewish community. It’s truly remarkable what we can accomplish when we work together. As August brings the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, we would like to take a minute to reflect on how far our community has come.

Houston is a shining example for other communities of people and organizations banding together to help each other through the toughest times. You have been on the front lines in working toward a full community recovery, which includes individuals, families and institutions alike. We thank you for your commitment and partnership.

It is in that spirit of community that we wanted to reach out with an update and a request. To date, the Jewish Federation locally nationally and internationally has raised nearly $23 million in response to Harvey and fundraising is ongoing. The funds have made an extraordinary difference by helping families, providing scholarships, and supporting restoration efforts across our Jewish institutions.

As a recipient of the Jewish Federation’s Hurricane Harvey funds, we ask that you remember to acknowledge the Federation directly when communicating about Harvey to your congregants, members, families and others integral to your organization.

We encourage you to make the acknowledgement your own, but we have also provided sample language to use at your discretion.

Please address any questions about this effort to the Federation’s Chief Marketing Officer, Taryn Baranowski, at tbaranowski@houstonjewish.org.
We thank you for all you do to make our community stronger and look forward to our continued partnership and we ensure a vibrant Jewish future for the Houston area.
Thank you,

“As we near the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, it is important that we acknowledge the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston's role in our community's recovery efforts. We are so thankful and appreciative of the support they have provided to institutions like ours in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. Our organization was also a beneficiary of these funding efforts.

Whether helping local day schools, synagogues, and key institutions rebuild or providing financial support to help families with recovery or children to attend summer camp, the Federation stood by us to meet the needs of our community and ensure Houston’s vibrant Jewish future.

For our organization, the Federation’s support allowed us to [insert what funds provided here]. The Jewish Federation continues to work hard to raise more funds as our recovery continues. We are so grateful to have them as part of our community.”

Federation produced videos about the impact of Harvey can be found here.

We encourage you to share them.
