The Jewish Federation of Greater Houston's Bureau of Jewish Education (BJE) offers a variety of programs and services for families who have children with special needs:
Special Needs Supervised Class at Yom Limmud 2008
An exciting and welcome addition to Yom Limmud will be a Special Needs Supervised Class for children whose needs require special assistance, while their parents/caregivers attend study sessions, presentations and workshops that day. Sponsored by the Jewish Family Service Alexander Institute, the SNS Class will have a certified special education teacher for each session with additional volunteers to help interact with the children. Activity materials and snacks will be provided.
Children may attend a morning session from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and/or an afternoon session from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Children attending the morning session must be picked up by 12:00 noon for lunch with their families. The cost for the Special Needs Supervised Class is $5 per child per session.
Pre-registration is required and due by January 28, 2008. No drop-ins will be accepted. The attached form must be completed and returned so that teachers may adequately prepare for those children who will attend. Parents/caregivers must be registered for Yom Limmud and remain on the premises while their children are in this class.

Special Education Class: The BJE offers a community-wide Sunday School class for children with learning differences.
Consultations: The BJE is available to teachers and parents of children with learning differences and community
at large, for consultations.
Jewish Network of Special Education Professionals: This network meets to share and disseminate information concerning the implementation of modification s in the school setting.
Parent Support Groups: See Community Resources.
Teacher Inservice: The BJE offers in service programming to the over 500 teachers who teach in our Jewish community including workshops pertaining to special needs topics.

Community Resources
STARS: This is a Preschool Intervention Program for children between the ages of 2-5 with language, social pragmatic and sensory motor challenges. This program is sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Houston. Contact www.jcchouston.org or (713) 551-7200.
