Haiti Earthquake Relief

The Ethiopian National Project (ENP) is a unique endeavor that unites organizations assisting the Ethiopian-Israeli community, in true cooperation and partnership with the Ethiopian community in Israel itself.

Through your gifts to the Federation's Annual Campaign, the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston is supporting the Ethiopian National Project Youth Center in our sister city Petach Tikvah, Israel.

This program has had a major and demonstrable impact on helping participants bridge cultural and educational gaps and prepare to enter the Israeli mainstream.  68% of youth in the program have never been in a youth program and studies show they are benefiting from the intervention.  The Youth Outreach Centers offer positive activities from 4-10 pm such as computer clubs, sports, crafts, music and games, etc.  Ethiopian counselors serve as mentors and reinforce personal and social development.  Issues such as violence, drug abuse, and other at risk behaviors among 13-18 year olds are strongly addressed and the program has been successful in yielding a sharp reduction in these and other dangerous behaviors.   Educational assistance is also provided to help with academic issues.

ENP is a partnership between the Jewish Federations of North America, the Government of Israel, representatives of Ethiopian Jewish Community Organizations, the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Israel (JDC-Israel) and Keren Hayesod-UIA.
