Your membership in the Foundation’s Dor L’Dor Society for Legacy Giving guarantees that the Jewish causes and concerns you care about most will be well-provided for—in perpetuity—whether they are located here in our local community, across the United States, in Israel, or around the world. Should the focus of your philanthropy extend beyond the Jewish community, the Foundation can ensure that those charitable organizations also continue to benefit from your support—long after you are gone.
To become a member of the Dor L’Dor Society for Legacy Giving, you must agree to create a permanent endowment with assets of at least $100,000. The first $100,000 of your endowment must be designated to benefit Jewish causes, and the Foundation encourages all Dor L’Dor Society members to direct one-third of the value of their endowment to support the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston’s annual United Jewish Campaign and/or the Foundation’s Community Endowment Fund, which benefits the Jewish community at-large. The remaining assets of your endowment can be used to support other causes that are important to you—Jewish or non-Jewish, local or global.
However, no money need change hands at all right now. All we are asking for is your promise—your promise to create a permanent endowment of at least $100,000 at the Houston Jewish Community Foundation. Your permanent endowment can be funded in any of a number of ways:
Bequest
Charitable Lead Trust
Charitable Remainder Trust
Gift of retirement plan assets
Gift of life insurance
Gift of residence or real estate
Gift of securities or other property
Gift from Philanthropic Fund
Gift from Supporting Foundation
Gift from Private Foundation
How you fulfill your promise is up to you. You’ll find a link to a simple form at the bottom of this page—all you need to do is download the form, complete it, and send it to the Houston Jewish Community Foundation at your earliest convenience. Once that’s taken care of, you should consult with your attorney, accountant, or other financial professional to determine the best method for you to implement your promise when the time comes. Of course, a Foundation representative is also available to meet with you and your professional advisors upon your request. Upon funding of your permanent endowment, 5% of the value of the endowment will be allocated—according to your wishes—each year.
Benefits of Membership:
To recognize the significant commitment you have made by becoming a member of the Dor L’Dor Society for Legacy Giving, the Houston Jewish Community Foundation will honor you in a very meaningful way. Not merely because your vision and leadership merits such special recognition, but also because it is our hope that your values and generosity will serve to teach others across our community—now, and for generations to come.
