Jewish Family Service (JFS), founded in 1913, is the oldest Jewish social service agency in Houston. It is a multi-functional social service agency, which provides counseling and support services to families and individuals and specialized services to senior adults. The agency's community services include Family Life, Education, and Mental Health Consultation. Other services offered by JFS are the no-fee Job Placement Program for employees and employers, an on-site social worker at Goldberg B'nai B'rith Towers, no- interest student loans, and adoption services. JFS is also the refugee resettlement agency for the Jewish community and provides Jewish chaplaincy services (see Jewish Chaplaincy Program) to patients in the Texas Medical Center. Fees are based on ability to pay (sliding fee scale, Medicare, and Medicaid). Jewish Family Service is a Community Partner of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston and a beneficiary of the community's Annual United Jewish Campaign.
